Economuseum of the Crystal Prospector

A brand new building has been built at Cristal du Lac allowing to gather under the same roof the regional quartz crystal in all its forms. The new building is located at the same address in Metabetchouan. The building houses the improved ÉCONOMUSÉE® and the Mineralogical Activity Center, where you can learn more about the traditional methods of prospecting for quartz crystal, an exceptional stone unique to our region, and admire their large collection of about one hundred specimens. A counselor is on hand to educate on the geological phenomenon of crystallization, on the variety of our crystals and on the transformation of this stone into jewelry. Perfect activity for groups and families, but also for all the curious.

 

 

Big investments for a big garden

Jardin Scullion has completed several new projects in the past year. A new sanitary unit was built at the entrance of the tourist site to better accommodate groups. This project speeds up the reception process for visitors arriving by bus. 3 new covered rest areas with treated wood tables and benches were also erected in the 42-hectare garden. These infrastructures offer spectacular views of the natural stone bridge and the Scullion Garden facilities.

 

In the production nursery, a new 600 m2 twin greenhouse complex with a state-of-the-art environmental control system was built.

In addition, a huge rock garden was built around the greenhouses to create an impressive demonstration garden of conifers, shrubs and perennials.

La Saguenéenne gets a makeover

La Saguenéenne - Hôtel et Centre de congrès is getting a new look with important investments for renovations within the establishment, mainly in the restaurant, the pool and the cabaret room. As for the restaurant, it will be completely changed to become the first Tomahawk grill franchise in the region. The restaurant will open its doors in mid-June and offers a unique concept of high-end steakhouse offering meats and fish to share for a delicious moment.

In addition to the pool, which will be renovated and painted, the cabaret will have a complete transformation as well as updating the building's facade.

 

 

Sleeping in the wilderness

 

The beautiful Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon is adding 10 new Étoile ready-to-camp units that can accommodate up to 6 people with 3 or 4 large beds and all the necessary cooking equipment. They will be located at the Camp-de-Touage campground in St-Gédéon, another sector of the park that has developed a lot in recent years. These magnificent wooden structures are perfectly integrated into the environment in which they are located for an immersive experience in nature. Moreover, they will be advantageously placed near the Lac Saint-Jean. They will be available from mid-June to mid-October.

Comfortable and accommodating

 

Seven new similar ready-to-camp sites will also be installed this summer at the Parc national du Fjord-du Saguenay in the Baie-Éternité campground sector. They can accommodate up to 6 people with 3 or 4 large beds and all the necessary equipment for cooking. Bedding not included.

Renovated hotel rooms

Ermitage Saint-Antoine's rooms are getting a makeover! The complete renovation of 48 hotel rooms enhances the lodging experience in this enchanting natural sanctuary.

In addition to the cottages and the 4-star campground, the Hermitage has 54 comfortable rooms available at a great price. Some of the rooms offer a magnificent view of Lac Bouchette.

Admire Lac Saint-Jean by bike

A new section has been added to the Véloroute des bleuets in Saint-Gédéon between rue de la Gare and rue du Quai. This new trail is over 1 km long and passes through fields and along the banks of the Belle-Rivière River, offering a magnificent landscape. It will improve the comfort and safety of cyclists, considering that before they had to go through Rue de Quen, a narrow street with a shoulder that was also narrow. This novelty will solve the problem of cohabitation that cyclists experienced in the past in this sector.

Immerse yourself in the Ilnu culture

 

Formerly named the Musée amérindien de Mashteuiatsh, the Musée Ilnu de Mashteuiatsh now offers the possibility of taking part in a workshop of typical First Nations crafts, a tasting of bannock (traditional bread) and herbal tea from the boreal forest as well as meetings with elders from the community.

Discover the heritage in the ground!

 

Another novelty of the Musée Ilnu de Mashteuiatsh is the initiation to archaeological excavation workshop. This activity allows you to learn more about archaeology in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean and the preservation of this cultural heritage. Available from June to August, Monday to Friday from 12:00 to 1:00 pm.

A new escape game on the lake Saint-Jean

In collaboration with Escaparium Saguenay, a new escape game is now available on Lake Saint-Jean. Come and solve the mystery of the islands in an extraordinary nautical adventure! Fortin's notary book was found under a pile of stones during development work in the Camp-de-Touage-les-Iles sector of the Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon in St-Gédéon. An adventure for family and friends in a kayak, paddleboard or canoe.

Available now for the whole summer! Cost: $25 + equipment rental as needed. Available only in french.

An escape game in the forest!

Okwari Le Fjord is also into escape games! In the form of a self-guided hike, set off with a backpack full of pockets to unlock and a notebook full of mysteries to solve!

Like a fun and educational escape game, participants follow a nature trail in search of clues and answers that will enable them to solve the riddles and access the objects hidden in their backpacks.

During the hike, participants will learn about the culture of the first peoples, the geological formation of the Rivière-à-Mars canyon and the flora and fauna of the boreal forest.

Two routes are available: the 3km Classic and the 5km Hiker.

 

 

Our Nordic fruits in new forms

Domaine Le Cageot, the first recognized vineyard in the region, continues its pioneering path by adding a new string to its bow: distillery. The producer, a proud specialist of northern berries and winner of many international medals, is pleased to offer 3 new products: raspberry, grape and black currant spirits. It is possible to discover these eaux-de-vie with the purchase of a visit and tasting package (from $10 per person). To fully enjoy the experience, the 90-minute discovery package is ideal. A welcome cocktail and a guided tour of the estate are part of the package. The main steps in the production of artisanal spirits are explained and the CHAI production site is visited.

Domaine le Cageot is also launching its ready-to-be-drunk sparkling wild blueberry, lemon & mint, without alcohol. A drink for the whole family, which is free of coloring, artificial flavors and unfiltered, but which can also be used to make delicious cocktails with our new brandies.

Local flavors in the spotlight

Offered on the Terrasse des Ha! Ha! of the Auberge des 21, the new special 100% Quebec menu will allow customers to discover the best alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in Quebec. To taste the specialties of the Saguenay, the establishment offers all kinds of products: tourtière, shepherd's pie, gourgaine salad, mushrooms (morel, chanterelle, dermatose, armillaire and boletus), wild blueberry pie, bread pudding and maple syrup, desserts made with blueberries, camerises, elderberries, blackcurrants, saskatoons and / or sea buckthorn. It is possible to eat directly at the Inn or to take your purchases with you for a picnic on the Fjord.

 

 

A new piece of history

 

The grandiose show La Fabuleuse histoire du royaume is getting a fresh and updated version this year with a new surround sound environment that takes you to the heart of the history of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. A new scene has also been added about the Saint-Jean-Vianney tragedy. This landslide occurred in 1971 and marked the history of the region. The actors, the sets and the atmosphere allow us to learn more about the sometimes-tragic past of this wonderful territory.

La Fabuleuse Histoire d'un Royaume is the epitome of grandiosity! A unique show in the world, it has made the region shine for over 35 years. Over the years, hundreds of dedicated people have put their hearts, talents and time into this majestic regional theatrical display! That's why La Pulperie de Chicoutimi / Musée régional will pay tribute to this grandiose show this summer by allowing visitors to discover the backstage area and meet the passionate actors who work year after year to make this story a memorable, immersive and so... fabulous experience! The exhibition is available from June 3 to September 17, 2023.

400 years of beer in Quebec

From June 15 to September 17, 2023, L'Odyssée des Bâtisseurs is offering a new exhibition entitled "Frette ou tablette - 400 ans de bière au Québec". For many Quebecers, drinking a beer is an integral part of their eating and social habits. Nevertheless, this action is the result of a complex and revealing historical construction. How did beer - marginal at the beginning of European history in America - progress to become, at the beginning of the 20th century, one of the distinctive features of French-Canadian culture? A travelling exhibition produced by the Société de développement culturel de Terrebonne.

The return of the summer theater

The Centre de villégiature Dam-en-Terre summer theater is back in force this year with the presentation of the play Boeing Boeing and the return of its dinner-show formula. Boeing Boeing is a comedy performed by six actors. It tells the story of a clever seducer who believes he has found the ideal solution to live in peace with three women he has promised to marry. The play will run from July 6 to August 26, 2023. The return of the dinner-show format allows for a friendly and jovial atmosphere, which has always been much appreciated by the public.
