Parc marin du Saguenay-Saint-Laurent

Description

For more than 25 years, the Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park has protected the marine and coastal environment of the Saguenay Fjord and part of the St. Lawrence Estuary. Discover its natural and cultural riches through a Discovery Network of partners who welcome you on land and at sea.

Go on an adventure on the waves during a whale watching excursion, a sailing or sea kayaking expedition. Stay with your feet dry and visit the interpretation centers of Parks Canada and the Fjord-du-Saguenay National Park (Sépaq) and meet passionate guide interpreters.

Complete your stay by exploring the villages along the fjord. Let people tell you their fascinating stories and discover breathtaking landscapes. Meet at the end of the docks in Sainte-Rose-du-Nord, Anse-de-Roche (Sacré-Coeur), Tadoussac, L’Anse-Saint-Jean, Petit-Saguenay and Baie-Sainte-Catherine. You might see belugas, minke whales, seals or seabirds.

The Pointe-Noire Interpretation and Observation Center is the ideal place to relax and enjoy the grandiose view of the mouth of the Saguenay and Tadoussac. Since 1875, this place has guided sailors thanks to the alignment lights installed one on the point and the other on the side of the mountain behind: they indicate the direction to follow to take the Saguenay channel. Keep a close eye on the open sea, you might be surprised by belugas; these white whales regularly follow the coast of Pointe-Noire.

In the caretaker's house, you will learn about the history of this place and the work required to operate a lighthouse until the 1980s.

Thanks to scale models of the 6 most frequently observed species of whales, learn how to tell them apart before going to the observation site by the river.
