Project in partnership with Carbone boréal
Carbone boréal is a research infrastructure of the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi that aims to offset greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by planting trees. When you offset, trees will be planted to capture the CO2 equivalent of the calculated emissions, making your trip carbon neutral.
Carbone boréal's forestry component is planted on bare boreal forest land north of Lac-Saint-Jean. These public lands are protected by experimental forest status. The species planted are provided by the Quebec Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks. The agricultural component takes place on land unsuitable for agriculture, and the landowner receives compensation ($1 per tree) for the long-term maintenance of the plantations. Compensation is offered in exchange for $42 per ton of CO2.
Carbone boréal determines and supplies the emission factors to Tourisme Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean.
