Parc national de la Pointe-Taillon

Description

The park is divided into three sectors offering exceptional access to Lake Saint-Jean.  This 97.5 km2 territory protects part of the natural region of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean lowlands. The Pointe-Taillon sector forms a large peninsula which juts out between the waters of Lake Saint-Jean and the Péribonka River. Pointe Taillon is a sandy plain with almost flat relief, without hills or mountains. Visitors will undoubtedly be charmed by the maritime or seaside atmosphere of the sandy banks as far as the eye can see.  Visitors will be charmed by the varied shades of sand on its long sandy banks. The territory can be explored by bike or on foot, using the 45 km cycle network which runs along the shores of the 92 km2 peninsula, or by sea kayak. The Véloroute des Bleuets criss-crosses the park for 15 km and represents one of the most beautiful sections. offer accommodation in cabins, ready-to-camp and developed campsites.


The ultimate experience is to stay in one of the rustic campsites on the shores of Lake Saint-Jean or even on an island.   Make great discoveries thanks to the animated activities on the fauna, flora and history of Pointe Taillon.

The protected territory is populated by birds, beavers and moose. The immense peat bog with its astonishing flora will arouse your interest. On the program: discovery and observation of nature, supervised swimming, water activities, cycling or hiking and rustic camping.

Animal life is intense at Taillon Point. Obvious clues, such as dams, lodges and beveled tree trunks, reveal the presence of the beaver. The moose has also established its headquarters in the park. During the migration period, Canada geese and greater snow geese stop at the park by the thousands. In the Pointe-Taillon sector, the 45 km cycle path goes around the peninsula on the banks of Lake Saint-Jean and the Péribonka River.  The terrain is fairly flat and accessible to the whole family.  Hybrid bikes and electric assist bikes are available for rental.

The Véloroute des Bleuets also crosses the Les-Amicaux and Camp-de-Touage-les-îles sectors.
