Musée Ilnu de Mashteuiatsh

Open since June 1977, the Ilnu Museum of Mashteuiatsh is recognized as a privileged place for the enhancement and transmission of the culture of the Pekuakamiulnuatsh (Innu of Piékouakami) and the First Nations of Quebec. Its permanent exhibition Tshilanu Ilnuatsh (We Others) won an Award of Excellence from the Canadian Museums Association in 2021. It highlights the culture of the Pekuakamiulnuatsh over the seasons in an interactive and content-rich journey. The museum also presents two new temporary exhibitions in the spring and fall of each year. Cultural activities, conferences, tasting of traditional dishes, tales and legends await you there all summer long.

The Ilnu Museum of Mashteuiatsh is a place of conservation and transmission of the culture of the Pekuakamiulnuatsh (Ilnu of Lac Saint-Jean) and the First Nations of Quebec. Come and discover the most fascinating activities and exhibitions, in addition to meeting dedicated people who are committed to showcasing and sharing this culture. The Museum offers three exhibitions during the summer period in addition to offering you a walk in the Nuhtshimitsh outdoor site (In the forest). Accompanied by a guide, visitors will learn how the Pekuakamiulnuatsh were able to adapt to their environment over the centuries. Several summer activities take place there. Cultural activities, conferences, demonstration of archaeological excavation techniques, tasting of bannock (bread) and herbal teas from the boreal forest.
