On one of the region's few elevations, an island of dwellings stands out in the northwest of Lac-Saint-Jean. Before arriving in the village, the first thing you see is the church of this peaceful hamlet, just before the roadside cross. Notre-Dame-de-Lorette is the last stop at the gateway to the boreal forest. The Festival du Bûcheron is held on Labour Day, while a visit to the heritage site dedicated to the log drive at the Lac aux Rats lock and a visit to Domaine L'Orée des bois (local alcohols) are a must all year round. There are also ATV and snowmobile trails (Relais Notre-Dame-de-Lorette), as well as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. In summer, you can take advantage of hebertism trails and magnificent beaches. Hunting, fishing and canoe-camping enthusiasts will love the Zec de la Rivière-aux-Rats recreational area, a wilderness of outstanding beauty.
