Sainte-Rose-du-Nord

Population: 475

Nicknamed "the pearl of the fjord", this village is a member of the Association des plus beaux villages du Québec. Nestled in a charming little green valley on the north shore of the Saguenay Fjord, this village of 440 souls was once called "La Descente-des-Femmes". According to an historical anecdote, Amerindian women used to go to the cliffs overlooking Anse à Théophile to wait for their men who had gone fishing. To reach them, they would slide down a gentle slope, avoiding the tortuous paths. Today, Sainte-Rose-du-Nord is a tourist and artisan town. Its panoramic splendor attracts photographers, painters and nature lovers year-round. In summer, many boats dock at the quay. In winter, ice fishing on the fjord attracts its fair share of enthusiasts.
