Its mission is to highlight sciences, particularly aquatic sciences, and to interpret the natural and historical heritage of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region, in particular that of the Saguenay fjord and the Baie des Ha! Ha! The museum also educates the community and the public about the importance of maintaining a harmonious balance with the natural environment.
Explore a 53,000 liter saltwater aquarium and discover the species that inhabit its waters, from starfish to sea urchins and sea cucumbers. You can learn more about their lifestyle, their habitat and their role within this marine ecosystem.
Also discover Plankton Odyssey, an immersive multimedia experience unique in the world that transports you to the heart of the infinitely small. Aboard a virtual submarine, set off to meet plankton, a true source of life and oxygen on Earth. This sensory, fun and collaborative adventure invites young and old to cooperate to awaken life while discovering the essential role of these organisms in the balance of the oceans.
Connect to our collective history with the exhibition From BALSAC to CopaQ, which traces the evolution of research in genealogy and genetics in Quebec. From the creation of the BALSAC file in the 1970s to the participatory platform CopaQ, this exhibition highlights the contribution of citizens to science and their link with the history of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean.
Continue your visit aboard the Navis for an immersive journey through the history and formation of the Saguenay fjord, thanks to a multimedia show.
In the summer season, the museum also offers outdoor activities, including excursions at low tide, to discover the hidden life of the banks, as well as guided tours of the historic district of Saint-Alexis, which offer an immersion in the heritage of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean.
