Lac-Bouchette

Population: 1179

The municipality of Lac-Bouchette takes its name from surveyor Joseph Bouchette who, in 1828, made an official expedition to the region to open up new territories for colonization. He discovered a vast territory: over 900 km². An ideal location for a place of worship and pilgrimage. In 1907, Abbé Elzéar Delamarre built a house and small chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua. The first pilgrims arrived in 1912. In 1915, a chapel dedicated to Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes was added. Ten years later, the Capuchins took charge of the sanctuary, erecting a monastery in 1948. L'Ermitage Saint-Antoine became one of Quebec's five national shrines. All year round, vacationers enjoy Auberge Éva. Here you'll find quality retail, accommodation and restaurant services.
