Description

The Saint-Cyriac chapel is located on the edge of magnificent Lake Kénogami in Saguenay. The site has been recognized as part of Quebec's cultural heritage since 2006 because it is of historical and architectural interest.

For more than 15 years, it has also become a true collective symbol for the community of Lac-Kénogami which is mobilized to make it a community place.

Exhibition, Digital Tour and Commemoration

The raising of the waters of Lake Kénogami in 1924 sounded the death knell for the village of Saint-Cyriac. Some houses were moved, others burned or dismantled, and foundations submerged. The Saint-Cyriac chapel is the only vestige of this enhancement and it has become a symbol for the community of Lac-Kénogami.

The year 2024 will be the 100th anniversary of the disappearance of the village of Saint-Cyriac. To use this event as a development lever, we have been working since 2019 on the development of a historical and heritage offer called “Saint-Cyriac emerged from the waters”. The interpretation offer will include:

  • Permanent exhibition at the Saint-Cyriac chapel
  • Digital tour of the territory and podcast

Concerts and cultural events

The Saint-Cyriac chapel has been offering a program of classical concerts for nearly 15 years thanks to the Concerts de la Chapelle. Over time, various collaborations have also made it possible to offer jazz and blues, choir and singing shows. Local organizations hold assemblies and special activities as well as community activities including the traditional National Day dinner.
