A weekend in Lac-Saint-Jean with your family
When you leave Montreal to go to Lac-Saint-Jean with children, it can be interesting to cut the road in half while stopping sleeping somewhere on the way.
Alexandra chose to sleep him in Quebec the day before her arrival.
DAY 1 | An Urban Day in Alma
Head directly to l’Odyssée des Bâtisseurs where you will visit to learn more about the importance of water and its role in the history of the region. Your guide will introduce you to the permanent exhibition, "Beyond Water".
For dinner, go to the Exode Café, a café offering a variety of healthy meals featuring regional boreal flavors. Young and old will be delighted.
Tips and tricks of Alexandra:
Spring often brings a lot of sun, but also a load of uncertain temperature. It might be good to plan an indoor activity that will please the whole family in case of bad weather!
After dinner, two choices are available to you.
- A short family bike ride on the Véloroute des Bleuets from the Centre de villégiature Dam-en-Terre. You can rent bike equipment with Équinox Aventure.
After spending the afternoon, you can head to the Hôtel Universel where you will spend the night and stay for dinner.
Suggestion of Alexandra :
If the good weather is on your side, make a stop at the Chocolaterie au cœur fondant for an ice cream of a hot beverage. If the evening is less lenient, enjoy the cinema directly available at the hotel.
DAY 2 | Culture and Beauty
Enjoy a relaxing morning at the hotel or do as Alex and discover the surrounding area before preparing to head to the Musée Amérindien de Mashteuiatsh.
Tips from Alexandra: The road lasts about an hour, but take more time to do it, because the landscapes are incredible and you will want to stop to admire THE famous Lake Saint-Jean!
Here are my suggestions for stops:
- Camp musical de Métabetchouan (the view of the belvedere is incredible)
- Rest stop at Chambord
- A quick run on the Véloroute des bleuets in Métabetchouan
- Auberge des Îles beach
If time permits it, plan a stop at a local producer like Fromagerie Médard or Fromagerie Perron.
To the Musée amérindien de Mashteuiatsh, you will take a guided tour of the museum and participate in a creative activity in the manner of Ilnu traditions. Take a moment to admire the view of Lake Saint-Jean.
Take the road for about half an hour to go to the Hôtel du Jardin where you’ll spend the next two nights.
Children will love the indoor pool.
Finally, enjoy a meal at the hotel restaurant, or go out exploring the surroundings to find a place to eat with your family.
DAY 3 | Sweet Tooth and Boreal Wildlife
Get ready to head to Délices du Lac-Saint-Jean - Confiturière Economuseum: Wild Blueberry for a gourmet. During this visit, you will be able to learn more about the transformation of the wild blueberry, this small emblematic fruit of the region. You can also taste some products and leave with some snacks for later.
After your activity, go back to Saint-Félicien to visit the Zoo sauvage de Saint-Félicien where you will have dinner and spend the afternoon.
Alexandra's favorite: The package ‘’L'Envers du Décor’’: exclusive access that will show you all the secrets of the zoo. On schedule: preparation of a snack, visit of the veterinary clinic and access to the training of tigers. This package is offered on specific dates during the year, please inquire! Your kids will be thrilled!
Enjoy a night of rest and explore Saint-Félicien to find your second place for dinner.
DAY 4 | Go around before leaving
Breakfast at the hotel before completing the tour of Lake Saint-Jean. Direction Dolbeau-Mistassini, where you will make a small detour to the Chocolaterie des Pères Trappistes to taste and discover their tasty chocolates.
On the way, take the time to admire the beautiful landscapes of the lake, especially in Péribonka.
Alex's Tricks: Capture memories of this ride and share them with #SagLac!
You will come across small craft shops, do not hesitate to enter to make discoveries.
For dinner, explore the surroundings of Alma before heading back home.
On your way, think about your future summer roadtrip in the region
